Landscape Designs to Conserve Water

For residents in semi-arid climates, landscape designs don't have to sacrifice greenery to conserve water. Homeowners might assume that they must replace most of their plants with gravel and rock features to create a garden that requires minimal watering, but this is not the case. There are many green options for xeriscaping, including junipers.

These robust plants are popular because they thrive with little watering. Another solution is to purchase an efficient in-ground sprinkler system that's set to an optimal watering schedule. Watering lawns on a daily basis is a waste of water, because grass only needs about 1" to 1 ½ " of water each week during hot weather. It's also more efficient to water your lawn regularly and lightly rather than to soak it only once per week.
